Dermatology is a medical specialty that involves the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the skin, nails, and hair. Therefore, among some of the conditions a dermatologist may be involved with include, skin cancers, psoriasis, acne, and hair loss.

A cosmetic dermatologist is a dermatology specialist that performs procedures that can improve the appearance of the skin. Such as correcting skin flaws, scars and wrinkles, aging conditions of the skin, hair restoration, hair loss, body contouring, laser tattoo removal, stretch mark removal.

How to become a Dermatologist

The training to become a dermatologist is rigorous. After medical school, one must complete a dermatology residency. Upon successful completion of their residency, many dermatologists elect to pursue further training. Which through a one or two year fellowship in a specialized field of dermatology such as cosmetic surgery.

Once one has successfully completed their residency, they are then eligible to sit for the Dermatology Board Examination to become “board-certified.” A dermatologist must complete the required continuing medical education to maintain board certification. They must re-take and pass the board examination every ten years in addition.

• Do they guarantee quality care and treatment and promote optimum health as opposed to keeping majority of their focus on product promotion?
• Dose the entire team, including the dermatologist, demonstrate good communication skills?
• Doing your homework will save you both time and money not to mention the unwanted outcomes of an inadequately trained cosmetic dermatologist.
