Summer is only a few short weeks away, and warmer weather means shorts, tank tops, and bikinis! This winter you may have been able to go a few days (maybe weeks) without shaving, but as the weather gets warmer and the clothes get skimpier, it’s time to get serious about your hair removal routine. If you’re fed up with your usual grooming habits, laser hair removal may be a procedure worth considering. It’s a long-term alternative to getting rid of unwanted body hair, that’s especially beneficial for girls who are tired of shaving every day, suffer from those unsightly, irritating skin bumps and ingrown hairs, or are just sick of having to get those monthly, awful waxes.
Sizzling hair follicles is one of Hollywood’s hottest trends, but it isn’t a procedure that is right for all people. RealSelf community members have given laser hair removal a Worth It Rating of 69 percent, having mixed but mostly positive reviews about the treatment.
As someone who has gone through the process, I can tell you honestly that it’s costly, takes multiple sessions, and it HURTS. But if you have the patience, funds and pain tolerance to weather the storm, the benefits pay off. Below are five different starlets who aren’t afraid, to be honest about their hair-removal journeys, and have opened up about the good, the bad and the ugly.
Kim Kardashian is so open about her laser hair removal treatments she underwent one on Keeping Up With the Kardashians. “I am Armenian, so of course I am obsessed with laser hair removal!” Kim said to Allure Magazine. “Arms, bikini, legs, underarms– my entire body is hairless.” In a recent interview with Oprah, she also revealed that staying pretty is a full-time job, and laser hair removal is one of her regular duties, ’It is a job. Gym every day. I’ve lasered everything.”
A little bit more hesitant than her sister Kim, Khloe Kardashian also had her first laser hair removal procedure done on Keeping up with the Kardashians. Despite her uneasiness during the first treatment, the reality starlet seems to have adopted the same positive feelings about laser hair removal as her older sister. She tweeted, “Man oh man! I LOVE laser hair removal. LOL, seriously I feel so clean everywhere. Who wants hair on their arms? Let alone other places.”
The Today Show‘s Hoda Kotb had laser hair removal done on her arms, during one of her live broadcasts. Her co-host Kathie Lee held her hand for support, and Hoda said, “It feels like a cold blast.”
In 2006, actress Alyssa Milano revealed that the pain of laser hair removal was almost too much to handle, “I’d rather get my whole body tattooed daily than do the laser… I’ve had two sessions, and I can honestly say that it’s the most painful experience ever.”
The Shah’s of Sunset star Lilly Ghalichi took to her blog, to write about her experience with laser hair removal. “Growing up, I had the worst experience with hair removal. I used to shave my armpits and bikini only to get intense redness, irritation, and ingrown. I was miserable and it was so embarrassing, especially in the summertime. As a woman, it’s hard to be hairy! Well, thank God for technology and the advent of laser hair removal! I began laser hair removal in college. I’ve done my armpits, bikini area, and full face. These are the only areas I have ever done, but I am very happy with the results.”
Kim K’s baby daddy hasn’t confirmed that’s he’s undergone a treatment, but he was spotted leaving a laser hair removal clinic with Kim. Whether he was just there for moral support (kind of weird, there’s nothing sexy about laser hair removal you’d want your man to watch) or if Kim has talked him into trying out the procedure we will never know. But as far as I’m concerned, the couple that burns hair follicles together…stays together.
